Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is a wonderful safari destination except during the wettest times (April - May). Tarangire River is an important source of water and draws many animals to its river banks. The park is best known for its large concentration of elephants (the highest concentration of elephants in Tanzania) and giraffes. Excepting for lacking rhinos and cheetahs, all African plains safari animals can be found here.

Tarangire is approximately a 3.5 hours drive from Moshi so it is possible to visit even as a day trip. But you will find that even spending 2 - 4 days here to be quite enjoyable. There are several excellent accommodation choices inside of the park from a public campsite to exclusive lodges and tented camps. Just outside of the park there are also several good accommodation choices in protected wildlife areas where you will be surprised by the number of animals wandering through the grounds.
